A Guide to Berlin

Use the Marriott Bonvoy destination guide to find travel ideas for the capital of Germany. There is a lot to discover in Berlin, including its history and well-known landmarks.

German Resistance Memorial Center

Previously this building complex was known as the headquarter of the German army during World War II, now it serves as a memorial for the members of the German resistance who fought against the Nazi regime and as a possibility, to educate the public about their great deeds. Not even a one-minute walk lies between the JW Marriott Hotel Berlin and the German Resistance Memorial Center.

Neue Nationale Gallerie

Built-in the spirit of cubism the Neue Nationalgalerie accommodates works by famous artists like Pablo Picasso, Juan Gris, and Jackson Pollock. The gallery allows a flexible arrangement of the artworks and encourages visitors to interact with the art on display. Just a short six-minute journey is requierd to reach the gallery.

Philarmonie

The unusual tent-like shaped building, with a curved roof is the home to Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Historical concerts took place at the Philharmonie such as Jimi Hendrixs in 1967 and Leonard Bernsteins in 1989 to celebrate the fall of the Berlin Wall. Nearby the Neue Nationalgalerie and the Berlin State Library, the Philharmonie is a great station for your sightseeing tour.

Tiergarten Park

The large area, which started as a hunting ground for the Prussian royal family, transformed into Berlins largest park. Several monuments like the Victory Column or the Siegessäule and attractions such as the Berlin Zoo are located in Tiergarten Park. It offers a peaceful retreat to take a break from the busy city streets in Berlin.

Kurfürstendamm

The famous Kurfurstendamm, also called Ku'damm, is well-known for being one of the most important shopping streets in West Berlin. In the early 20th century it was upgraded from being a bridle path, used by the electors for hunting, to a fashionable residential area. Today you can find plenty of high-end fashion stores along the streets and important landmarks like the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.

Brandenburg Gate

The Brandenburger gate is not only one of Berlins most famous landmarks but also a symbol of peace. During the cold war, this impressive building went through a dull image of being a symbol of separation, now we associate it with freedom and great architecture. A great landmark located in the center of Berlin, that you can finde at the end of the Unter den Linden boulevard.
