Traces of a Prussian Past: The Gendarmenmarkt is perhaps the most magnificent city square in Berlin. This is where Prussian King Frederick I founded his very own "Frederick City" and built it on the principles of Prussian austerity, tolerance, and generosity. The Französische Dom, together with the Konzerthaus and the Deutscher Dom bore witness to the Prussians' welcome of the Huguenots. Its magnificent architecture opens a door to the whole city, both past and present. In addition to these traces of our Prussian heritage, our location offers great opportunities to explore contemporary Berlin. Unter den Linden, the Brandenburg Gate and the government district are steps away. Contemporary Friedrichstadt invites guests to take a stroll through the past and present, or simply explore the many shops. A variety of means of transportation can be accessed to help you explore the entire city. The Hotel Luc remains true to its quest for personal freedom.
The "white gold”, its emblem, and the cobalt blue scepter are globally renowned. King Frederick II bestowed the latter personally on the Royal Porcelain Manufactory. We can still find traces of his passion for porcelain at KPM. Special pieces from The Royal Porcelain Manufactory can be found in the Hotel Luc: for example the Schinkel basket at the reception which proudly presents the best of Prussia: the potato.
Berlin's oldest promenade owes its splendor to Frederick the Great. It gets its name from the vast number of linden trees that line it. The lively street leads from the Berlin Cathedral to the Brandenburg Gate. Start your stroll at the eastern end, near Hotel Luc, where you can meet Old Fritz, King Fredrick I of Prussia, in person. He watches over his boulevard, Unter den Linden, from horseback in statue form.
The Prussians quickly realized that potatoes could not only be eaten, but that they’re also extremely useful in the distilling of schnapps. Born from the state-sanctioned Potato Ordinance, the merger of numerous Berlin-based potato distilleries resulted in a manufactory that distills the spirits of Prussia still today. The active distillery is both a test laboratory and a working distillery museum.
The reconstruction of the Berlin Palace as the Humboldt Forum has enriched the city with yet another cultural site and museum. A revolving range of programming invites you to join contemporary debate. At the end of your cultural experience, a visit to the roof terrace is truly rewarding. A panoramic view of Berlin’s most important landmarks offers an opportunity to grasp the true meaning of its centrality.
The Berlin government district is the seat of the German federal government. Its open architecture along the Spree can be discovered on foot or by boat. The best route for a stroll begins directly in front of the Hotel Luc, follows along the Unter den Linden boulevard, through the Brandenburg Gate, and leads directly to the Reichstag. Its imposing dome, which was only added in 1999, is open to the public.
One of Berlin's most famous landmarks: the golden goddess of victory, Victoria. She watches over the entire city from where she stands as the shining star at the center of the Tierpark. The monument was erected by King Wilhelm I of Prussia, who had intended to commemorate several glorious wars, above all the wars of German unification. Today, The Victory Column serves as a traffic junction and viewing platform.
