History comes to life in the Fourth Avenue Historic District, which was known as Pittsburgh’s “Wall Street” in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The area was home to 102 chartered banks and trusts as well as the Pittsburgh Petroleum Stock and Metal. One of 16 National Register Districts in the city, Fourth Avenue showcases buildings designed by more than a dozen distinguished architects, in styles ranging from Greek Revival to Post Modern constructed between 1836 and 1984, as well as eye-catching architecture and historical markers.
